Football payer in stadium

Before we enter a dark and dreary winter (not that we have anything to complain about in Texas), we get to experience the vibrant changes that come in the fall.

It’s our last chance to get some activity in before the light of the year begins to set. Don’t fret, however; with the Texas State Fair arriving and football season underway, there is plenty to keep us busy.

Did Someone Say “Football”?

In Texas, we like things big, and football just may be the biggest. No other place on earth takes football as seriously as we do, and our investment in the sport shows it. With an arms race in stadium developments, even our high school games can shut down the town.

Despite fierce competition from across the state, the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District boasts some of the finest football on the gridiron. With the season in full swing, don’t forget to protect your athlete’s teeth with a custom-fit mouthguard. Our office can help make sure your child’s mouth is well protected.

L.D. Bell Blue Raiders

The Raiders suffer the problem of being a great football team that will play at the toughest level (6A), in the toughest region of the country. After a couple of rough seasons, this year has started off strong, already banking as many wins as they did all of last season.

In their season opener against Coppell, they were edged out in double overtime, but Coach Glaze lead them on to take down North Crowley and Keller in the following weeks. Some of the Blue Raiders have already been drawing attention for their patriotism and their speed.

Trinity Trojans

You can’t talk about high school football without some discussion of the Trinity Trojans. As one of the top teams in the country, they have garnered our school district a lot of attention. They have won the last eight district titles, and have been state (5A) champions three times. They have an astonishing 88% win rate over the last decade, despite an always-challenging schedule.

Attending a Trinity game is guaranteed excitement, as their fans can always be counted on to pack the stands, and their players can be counted on to deliver an amazing athletic performance… and a dance.

Never to be outdone, the Texas State Fair starts shortly and will go for 24 days. Last year, over 3.5 million people attended, making our fair the largest in the country. Here’s what you have to look forward to:

  • Auto show– including a test-drive track
  • 85 live music performances, including: Craig Wayne Boyd, Lecrae, and Emilio
  • Carnival rides– including a massive 212 ft. ferris wheel
  • Art– including a 4,000 lb sculpture made from butter
  • Agriculture and livestock
  • A truck obstacle course so you can thoroughly test all the new models
  • Children’s activities galore

Fried… Everything

The secret to tasty fair food is simply to deep fry it. Meat, bread, old socks, stuff that was already deep fried, it doesn’t matter — just dip it, fry it, and it becomes delicious. With the state fair in our sights, it’s the obvious place to seek out such deep-fried delicacies like cookie fries, deep-fried pumpkin spice Oreos, and the fried bacon cinnamon roll.

These eats are so good, Wal-Mart is taking them on the road to test them at some of their high-profile locations. Here are a few of the other tasty treats you will be able to find at the Texas State Fair:

  • Fried Jello
  • Dorito Bacon Fried Cheese Stick
  • Deep fried Bacon-wrapped Tater Dog
  • Injectable Great Balls of BBQ
  • Seductive Fried Sea Salt Caramel Wrap

Make the Big Idea Bigger

Our community never settles. We always strive to do things better, and it’s this determination to think big that has made us so successful. From unstoppable football teams, to unparalleled academic achievement, and even to our deep-fried dishes, our goal is to make the big idea bigger.
