Periodontal Disease is gum disease caused by inflammation or infection in the tissues that surround your teeth. Do you experience any of these symptoms?

Bad Breath

This is more than just morning breath. Does it linger throughout the day?

Bleeding Gums

Bleeding gums could mean that you have gingivitis, early periodontal disease.

Red and Swollen Gums

This is a sign of inflammation from beginning infection in your gums.

All of these are signs of gingivitis, the earliest stages of Periodontal or Gum Disease and can be easily treated with regular cleanings, brushing, and flossing.

Our staff at Marea White, DDS in Bedford, TX can help remove any tartar that has built up in hard to reach places.

Periodontal Disease Can Get Progressively Worse If Left Untreated

Gingivitis begins as a relatively “silent” invader, usually painless, and progresses unnoticed. Plaque, though continues to build up on your teeth and eventually spreads below the gum line.

Over time, if left untreated, plaque turns into tartar which harbors growing bacteria. The inflammation and infection in the gums and supporting tissues can cause increased bleeding, swelling, and eventually the loosening or loss of teeth if the periodontal disease process is not halted.

This tartar, or calculus, that becomes hardened, is difficult to remove at home. Only a dentist or dental hygienist can remove tartar with a professional cleaning.

Minimize Your Risk of Periodontal Disease

  • Brush Daily – Brush at least twice a day, especially after meals.
  • Floss Daily – Flossing helps remove the plaque between your teeth.
